The Mind-Body-Spirit Relationship: Bringing the Parts Together

The mind-body-spirit relationship is the core of the mind-body-spirit paradigm shift in healing and healthcare. So if we want better – OPTIMAL – healing, then we must start appreciating and understanding how these three parts work together. Refer back to previous posts for discussion of each part.

According to my model, your spirit part is present and available 24/7 to participate in your body’s healing. However, this life energy – aka LOVE ENERGY – is involved in varying degrees, depending on your awareness and willingness to allow its influence. In other words, you decide – your conscious and subconscious mind – when and how much your spirit will “touch” and uplift the cells and tissues throughout the process. So your mind acts as a gate, never completely closed yet (likely) never completely wide open either.

My model also suggests that your mind – both consciously and subconsciously – directly affects your physical body … sometimes in constructive, helpful ways and sometimes in not-so-constructive, not-so-helpful ways.

And your body informs your mind by providing signs and symptoms such as achiness, tenderness, redness, weakness, or numbness. In this way, your body acts as feedback – a messenger to your mind - in response to its internal and external environments.  

So here are the simple – and powerful – conclusions about this relationship.

For OPTIMAL healing:

o   Your mind must allow and encourage your spirit to participate as much as possible.

o   Your mind must find and engage only constructive, helpful ways to affect your body.

o   Your mind must pay attention and appropriately respond to your body’s messages.

BOTTOM LINE: It’s your mind part that must adjust, change, transform.

As your mind improves, the relationship between your three parts will improve. And as this relationship improves, your potential for OPTIMAL healing will expand and deepen. Oh, the POWER OF THE MIND!
