The Power of Your Mind: What Do You “Know” About Healing?

In last week’s BLOG about the mind-body-spirit relationship, I concluded that your mind is the “change agent” for OPTIMAL physical healing. So…let’s start prioritizing your mind by observing it, discovering more of it, and expanding it to your advantage.

This week, I encourage you to realize just how much (or how little) you know about the natural healing process of your body. What you know – or think you know – will affect your mind’s potential to cooperate and assist with this process.

Be aware that some of your long-standing “knowings” may be true while others may be misunderstandings. Take an honest inventory of your thoughts and beliefs about healing.

To help get your inventory started, think about how your past bruises, cuts, and scrapes have healed. How did your skin change as the healing progressed? How long did it take? What did you do to assist the process? At this point, just reflect and take note of what you “know” about skin healing.

Next, ask yourself other healing questions like:

  • What do I know – or think I know – about pain and inflammation?

  • What do I know – or think I know – about how different body tissues (such as bone, muscle, and nerves) heal?

  • What do I know – or think I know – about (insert relevant diagnosis or disorder)?

Stay committed to learning the truth – and correcting the misunderstandings - about your body and its natural healing process.

When you know the truth, you are more empowered … increased confidence, smarter decisions, and intentional actions.

Indeed, knowledge is power … a power that enables your mind to act as a constructive force in your physical healing.

Next week, let’s discuss - and correct - several common misunderstandings about the healing process.
